P OLLY AND CHORUS:
How can we see, how life will be,
In a future that waits for you and me?
MARTIN:
It's up to us we have the choice.
CHORUS:
It's up to us to make our voices heard.
MARTIN:
Time will let us see, what eternity,
Holds for vou and me to be.
CHORUS:
We're the survivors,
Surviving what we see.
We're the survivors,
Thinking we're alive as we can ever be.
We're the survivors.
We choose eternity.
POLLY:
All survivors maybe: but what of the future? Where do we go from here?
MARTIN:
Let's solve the problems.
POLLY:
How?
MARTIN:
I don't know; but it's an interesting challenge.
FIRST MAN:
If we all divided up into groups, each working on one aspect ....
FIRST GIRL:
We all have different specialities, we have studied and work in.
SECOND MAN:
I know which group I'm going for.
FIRST MAN:
No! Seriously. Who has studied or has a particular knowledge of animal
behavior?
SECOND GIRL:
I'm a biologist. I could form a group to find out about the way the
spider makes it's web.
POLLY:
That's a good start.
FIRST MAN:
Can you use a materials engineer in your group ?
THIRD MAN:
I have been conducting studies into Einstein's theories of relativity
and the nature of matter, energy and time.
POLLY: I would like to work with poets and musicians on the song "Circles".
MARTIN:
Let's all meet on the village green at noon on Mayday, and see what
progress we've all made.
(The others leave. Polly and Martin are alone)
MARTIN:
When times get strange, and you really don't know what to do,
Take a chance on the weather for two good reasons,
For seasons of sadness and mirth,
Some seasons know reasons like madness
And the birth of an idea
So take your time, let the ideas ferment like a wine,
Take a chance on using your mind to reason,
The seasons of sadness and mirth,
Some seasons know reasons like madness
And the birth of an idea.
So take your time.
